THE SECRETS OF THE HEALTHIEST COMMUNITY IN THE WORLD According to a paper submitted to the American Medical Association Journal by Dr. Robert McCarrison, not a single member of this small community have ever suffered from any form of cancer. The Hunza people also experience incredibly prolonged fertility with some women giving birth naturally at sixty-five years old. The extraordinary good health of the Hunza people has led scientists to examine and investigate their lifestyle to discover the secret to their success, and so far they have a lot to go on. The Hunza diet is mainly comprised of small portions of raw fruits and vegetables, milk, cereals like barley, millet, buckwheat, legumes, eggs and sometimes cheese. They also eat a lot of apricots which they consume after letting them dry in the sun. The Hunza people also have an age old tradition of fasting for two to four months in a year. During this time of year, they don’t eat anything except for dried apricot juice. It is believed that the apricots might have something to do with their prolonged life expectancy as the seeds of apricots contain a powerful anti-cancer agent in the form of vitamin B-17. However, it might be the case that the fasting itself is helping to stall the effects of diseases such as cancer. Preliminary studies have found that short-term fasting can cause a ‘reset’ of the immune system which can help to repel the development of cancerous cells. In addition to their healthy and sparse diet, the Hunza people are also distinguished by the level of physical exercise that they undertake every day. The people spend most of their days walking which could also encourage the development of a powerful immune system which could help keep diseases such as cancer at bay. Personally, I believe it’s the fasting, the apricot seeds, or both. Beyond guessing as the WHY this happens, it proves that the medical community is not the final answer and plays into the one revelation that many people need to make, i.e. that the patient themselves is the final “doctor”, not the person in the white coat who sees you for 8 minutes and sends you an inflated bill for their opinion.
